Festive Special

Strictly Come Dancing Festive Special 2010

After last Saturday’s series eight final I thought that the Festive Special would be a complete flop.  How wrong I was, and to say that these celebrities have approximately only 20 hours to rehears for the show I think is amazing.

We all know John Barrowman can dance on a stage, but it just goes to show a Ballroom floor is another art in itself, I loved their routine as it made the best of John’s talent, technically he needed to cross at the ankles on his ‘lock steps’ and bring his feet together more on his ‘chasse’, but what a beginning to this magical show.

Ronni & Anton

A light Viennese Waltz from Ronni Ancona, beautifully choreographed. Ronni had a good frame, she was just a little skippy and dippy and a bit forgetful in places, but a very good attempt.

Vince & Erin

A very good demonstration of this very difficult Ballroom dance from Vince Cable. He showed great footwork and floor craft, mulled together with good hold and lead ability. If anything, his posture was pitched a little forward but they glided around the floor as anyone who has danced a Foxtrot will tell you, is what makes a Foxtrot a Foxtrot.

A very steady Jive routine from Fern Britton with lots of high lights, her flicks and kicks were a bit soft in attack but she performed like she had been dancing for months.

June & Vincent
Tango

Bless June Brown, what a shame she looked like she had lost her little Willie. A very long intro, but I loved the story behind their routine. When they were in hold it was a very promising Tango with a strong staccato feeling and nice lines, overall it was a good attempt, dignified and sweet.

GROUP NUMBER

I loved the Christmas group number from our series eight gang, especially when the judges joined in at the end and Kara & Artem kissed.  I hope this will be put in the tour, the dance not the snog!

The Christmas 2010 Champions are (easily) John Barrowman & Kristina Rihanoff.

That about raps it up again for 2010, so until series nine, best of luck for the New Year.

Series Eight Grnad Final

Strictly Com Dancing
Week 12 The Final

The wait is over and the final three have one last chance to be crowned Strictly Champions 2010, over the last three months we have had highs, lows and Ann & Anton to get us all in the pantomime spirit. What a series! But for me they are all winners.

Matt & Aliona

Matt has a really good Samba action that he lost slightly on his Samba walks, then he danced a series of barrel rolls that are not easy to do and controlled them very well, then as expected he showed us his back flips a fantastic opening routine to the show, well done Matt a very clean and confident performance.

Rumba is the dance of love and you could feel every emotion emulating through the screen, it was truly beautiful and another professional performance as we have come to expect from these two, and was easily a ten.

Pamela & James

Pamela, a true lady of dance, superbly executed routine with pure passion and technique, as Len said ‘the best three couples are in the final’ and for Pamela to receive three full houses over the series is a record in itself.

Matt & Aliona

A very clean and neat routine very well rehearsed but I did not understand the flow or the story they were trying to portray, excellent tricks it just was just lacking in dance content for me, this could have cost Matt, who is still the bookies favourite, the trophy.

Kara & Artem
Showdance

This was a true Showdance exactly how it should be danced, a Showdance routine should be based around one of the five Ballroom or five Latin American dances and should tell a story, use exciting lifts to show the relationship and trust between the partnership, which it did, yes there were one or two little stumbles but what a full on fast routine with very difficult lifts and tricks, you cannot deny Kara owns the dance floor, I would have scored it a ten just for effort.

Pamela & James

A very clean well polished Mambo routine, not quite a Showdance routine but a very good job, and Pamela you are looking A-MA-ZING, however it did not quite push my button as I have come to expect this standard of dance from these two and as it was their last chance to wow us, I expected more.

 Grand Final

Kara & Artem and Matt & Aliona were then declared the final two in the competition, and from the judges and studio audiences reaction it was not expected, as already stated they have all brought so much to the competition to loose anyone at this stage is just unfair, but do I agree with the decision for Pamela & James not to make it…………. No but Kara is easily the best celebrity dancer and Matt does work for the BBC.

Matt & Aliona
Paso Doblé

I was not keen on this interpretation of the Paso, there were some strange lines from Matt and the use of body ripples was completely over done, even some of the hand gestures were very effeminate and his Chasse Capes were way to high on his toes.

Kara & Artem
Waltz

I was not over impressed with Kara’s Waltz either, there were timing and footwork issues and top line problems, Kara is very graceful and oozes performance but I have seen them dance better and did not think it deserves a ten, but then later we found out that Kara had sustained an injury from there previous show dance routine so was obviously in a lot of pain, which explained their demonstration.

Matt & Aliona

Out came the garden swing again! A graceful lilting Waltz there was flat-footed moments and his left elbow was too high, but it did move and flow well around the floor.

Kara & Artem

An unbelievable performance from these two, I loved it the first time and thought they danced it even better, truly professional musicality, and just to dance with an injury which is why Kara missed out the travelling splits I presume, did not spoil it one little bit, and for Len to score a seven because of the ‘in hold’ content for a final dance was a little hypocritical, especially as they only missed one element and Matt missed three and scored a nine, just because you were ill you did not need to take it out on the best celebrity performer Strictly has ever seen.

The winner of Strictly come Dancing 2010 is………….Kara & Artem, easily deserved, and best of luck with Artem in the future! I am sure everyone will agree with me when I say, we have been honoured to see your relationship blossom over the last three months a look forward to seeing more of you both on the dance floor.

That about raps it up for 2010 do not forget the Christmas Special 7pm BBC 1 Christmas day, so until next time.

Have a wonderful peaceful Christmas and New Year.
